Palpa Nepal One Report

Tansen is the headquarter of Palpal, situated at the height of 1350m, about 350 km from Kathmandu and 65 km from Pokhara. The ancient hill town Tansen has been derived from the Magar word “Tansing” means the northern settlement. Mainly, Magars in Palpa and Newars in Tansen inhabit. The main religion of the people is Hinduism and Buddhism. Tansen is rich in culture of Magar as well as Newari. There major festivals are Dashain, Tihar, Bhagawati jatra, Ropai jatra, Ganesh jatra, Amarnarayan jatra, Bhaag jatra, Maghesakranti, Lakhe, Bhimsen jatra, Gai jatra, Janai purnima, Ridi fair, Saytawati fair, Holi, New Year, Shivaratri, Parbas mela and many others. In Tansen, there are lot of ancient typical monuments, Tansen Durbar, Amar Narayan Temple, Bhagawati Temple, Siddhi Binayak Temple, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Bhimsen Temple etc. In ancient time Tansen was the capital of Palpa kingdom ruled by the Sen Dynasty on 16th century. When Prithvi Narayan Shaha united Nepal, Palpa was under control of Gorkha.
